Competitive advantages

Salmon plasma proteins have unique properties that provide advantages for many applications. Salmon fibrinogen and thrombin are free from mammalian viruses and prions, a major advantage in therapeutic use. In addition to its bioactive properties, salmon fibrin degrades more slowly in vivo than mammalian fibrin, and polymerizes over a wide temperature range (4°-40°C) which could be useful for neurotrauma or surgery performed under induced hypothermia. Unlike mammalian fibrinogen, salmon fibrinogen promotes neurite outgrowth.

Product Pipeline

SEA-STAT®CNS is a salmon fibrin product which has shown remarkable efficacy in animal trials of spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury (Flanagan et al. 2007; Choo et al. 2008). Salmon fibrin has:

  • Reduced neuroinflammation
  • Spared injured neurons
  • Enhanced neurite outgrowth and survival of stem cells (Figures 1 & 2)
  • Suppressed inhibitory cytokines and glial scar
  • Promoted functional recovery
  • Reduced pain

The application of SEA-STAT®CNS to the injury site could dramatically improve outcomes in cases of spinal cord injury (SCI) and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

SEA-STAT®HM is a salmon fibrin formulation for hemostasis. Animal studies have demonstrated consistent performance equal or superior to mammalian-derived fibrin sealants.(Figures 5 & 6).

SEA-STAT®SL has demonstrated effective and unique properties for tissue sealing and tissue engineering.

Laboratory products

Sea Run Holdings, Inc. is developing a wide range of laboratory products in parallel with these therapeutics. Including:

  • SEA-BLOCK™ a blocking agent for diagnostic applications, is distributed through East Coast Bio, Inc. .
  • SEA-GROW™ is a salmon plasma product for culture of fish and insect cells. It is distributed by East Coast Bio.

Other laboratory products are salmon RBCs, for instrument calibration, and salmon fibronectin and plasminogen.
