SEA-STAT®
SEA-STAT® is a salmon-derived fibrin sealant which addresses major medical markets where rapid clotting is desired. These include such diverse applications as cardiac, thoracic, plastic and general surgery; skin grafting, repair of bony defects and treatment of gastric ulcers. Initial tests conducted by the military indicate that lyophilized SEA-STAT® applied to bandages greatly enhances clotting. Half of battlefield deaths are the result of massive bleeding, and SEA-STAT® may offer a solution to this problem.

In anesthetized rats, the hip including the femoral artery was crushed, usually a fatal injury, and a model for a severe battlefield wound. Control rats received no treatment; a second group received SEA-STAT®, a bandage with salmon fibrinogen and thrombin; and a third group was treated with "Tachocomb," a bandage made from human fibrinogen, thrombin, and equine collagen. SEA-STAT® proved superior both in reducing blood loss and improving survival.
